Marlborough Concert Orchestra

Anna Marsden, Chair and Bass player, Marlborough Concert Orchestra, writes:

Marlborough Concert Orchestra - the Town’s very own orchestra - was formed in 2006 and is going from strength to strength. In 2014, following a tough selection process,Marlborough Concert Orchestra Roselise Gentile was appointed conductor. Roselise grew up and studied in her native Italy but 5 years ago decided to live permanently in England where she is continuing her career as a choir and orchestra conductor. She also returns regularly to conduct the professional chamber orchestra Farnesiana in Italy, which has a vast repertoire ranging from baroque to 20th century music.

Marlborough Concert Orchestra performs three exciting concerts a year. The programmes are a mix of major symphonic works by composers such as Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Brahms, Beethoven and Rachmaninov and lighter pieces from the shows, Christmas music and film scores. The orchestra has performed concertos with professional local players and is also keen to give exceptional young soloists from the music colleges concert experience.

The orchestra draws together people of different ages and playing experience. We offer a supportive environment which is ideal for anyone (providing they have passed Grade 6 or above) who hasn’t played in an orchestra before or is returning after a break. We warmly welcome new players, especially in the strings and brass sections.

Volunteers are needed too. If you have some spare time and would like to become involved with the orchestra, there are many ways you can help, especially on concert days. All helpers are entitled to a free ticket!

“I am always amazed how busy people with family and work commitments manage to keep Tuesday evenings free for orchestra rehearsals. Could it be that joining together to make music is good fun and a rewarding experience which provides us all with the chance to learn and improve? Concert nights are even better!”
