Tower and Town, June 2026 (view the full edition)      Letter To The EditorDear Madam Was Jesus a Substitute for Us? The above question was posed by Hugh de Saram in the May 2026 edition of Tower and Town. In February 1975 I committed the rest of my life to understanding how a Good, Omniscient, All-Powerful God could allow so much evil in the World without obviously intervening. The second edition of my Book Truth, Imagination and Reality should come out shortly and I am planning to give copies to those that request it. Much was written when I was an in-patient in a psychiatric hospital many years ago but it addresses many profound questions. The title hints that many things cannot be understood without the use of imagination and that the world of the spirit may be more real than the physical world. This is the conclusion to which Socrates came in Plato's Republic. As noted in Appendix 2, I do not claim to be a theologian but I have learned much by observing human behaviour with many answered prayers, parables and miracles. For example, I inlcuded a quotation from Psalm 139 at the front of the book because we travelled to the utmost west and lived literally, for a while, on the shore of the Pacific in Panama. Hugh is a proper theologian but I found his article rather simplistic. As he says, the question of free will is absolutely central and continues to apply when we are 'in the spirit'. Jonathan Hinks.
